I'm very impressed, Andrew! As I read your blog, I wasn't' sure which way it was going to go. Sounds like a big leap forward for you. On my reading of what you wrote, you've realized significant differences between your "default" (what comes naturally) style and that of your associate. Certainly it makes sense to see a link between discipline and following instructions. I expect your associate was also pleased to see you move closer to the style the students are used to.
Of course if you were starting off with these students, it could be quite different, but for now, it seems you've gained some good insights and I'm really pleased to see that you are linking what the teacher does to what the students do and learn!
